- It is funded through the U.S.
- Department of Health and Human Services, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) under the National Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program (NBCCEDP), and with Maine General Fund dollars.
What is the mission of the MBCHP?
To provide breast and cervical cancer screening and diagnostic services to underserved women, to provide public and professional education, and to support community partnerships to enhance statewide cancer control activities.
How to be eligible to enroll in the MBCHP for breast and cervical cancer screening services?
- Must be a Maine woman age 40 or older, and have a household income less than or equal to 250% of the current Federal Poverty Level (FPL), and have no health insurance, or health insurance that does not cover mammograms or Pap tests (preventive cancer screening services), or has high deductibles, co-insurance, co-pays, or premiums.
- Women receiving Medicare Part B or MaineCare benefits are not eligible for MBCHP.(Mammograms and Pap tests are covered under these programs.)

Eligibility
With or without health insurance, to enroll in the MBCHP you must:Be a Maine woman age 40 or older, with the following exceptions:
Women 35-39 who have seen a doctor and need follow-up tests for a possible breast or cervical cancer ; or
Women 35-39 who have not had a Pap test in 5 or more years.
Have household income less than or equal to 250% of the current Federal Poverty Level (FPL);
Health insurance with high deductibles, co-insurance, co-pays, or premiums.
Women receiving MaineCare or Medicare Part B are not eligible for MBCHP.

MBCHP only pays for covered breast and cervical cancer screening services performed during your office visit at the contracted MBCHP network service location you selected at initial enrollment or re-enrollment (listed on the front of your MBCHP member ID card below your name) or the MBCHP approved participating diagnostic network service location you were referred to by your MBCHP network service location. Your MBCHP network service location provider must order all tests.
